Default Idle Speed too high

Hi,

My D (99 5.9l) has suddenly developed a problem with the idle speed, espeically on start up in the morning from cold.
The speed is too high(1200 rpm +)...I suspect a problem with the Idle Position Sensor, which I assume is similar to the TPS that I also recently replaced to stop the "blipping" of the engine speed whilst on cruise control...Anybody agree..??

Chris

That could very well be. The IAC (idle air control) motor commonly gets carboned up and causes erratic idle. Just take it out, clean it up with some TB/carb cleaner, and reinstall.

I'd suggest pulling the TB and cleaning the whole thing. plus while your in there take a peak down the intake manifold and see if there is any oil pooling on the bottom. if so, this would indicate a leaky plenum gasket. easy fix if you can wrench. common problem with the magnum motors.

Agreed. Clean that baby out.
