2003 roaring noise? HELP
I posted awhile back and somethings up. I just purchase my second 2003 durango 4.7 with 32,000. no hicth. The motor is quite on accelaration and through driving. But the other durango 43,000 (also 4.7 with a hitch) roars very loudly at all time. No problem with the truck as far as temp or running....What is it ..should i bring it to the dealer?
Welcome to the forums.
First, the noise you hear is the fan clutch. This roar is normal. The roar should go away shortly. If the roar never goes away, the clutch may be locked up and needs replacing.

I also have an 03 Durango. It also sometimes roars when I first engage the transmission at cold start up. It seems that the transmission does not fully engage sometimes and the RPM goes up when lightly stepping on the gas. This never happens when driving after even a slight warmup. Generally this happens when I am first going down my driveway, (I live about 300 yards off the road). To make the transmission fully engage I lightly "punch" the accelerator and both the roar and the RPM declines and operates smoothly. Hope this helps.
May be time to change out the fluids on the tranny and depending on how many miles you got, change out the sensors (transmission and speed). If you still got these symptoms, chances are the governor actuator switches are about to go out.
Do a full service on your trany. Fluid, filter and band adjustment. That should take care of your problem. Try to get it done extremely fast though before you burn your bands up.
