Default 2000 Durango R/T

Hey guys i own a 2000 Durango R/T with the 5.9,all wheel drive,i think it has 3.50 gears with the anti-slip rear.not to sure on the gears, i would have to check for sure. It has all the R/T options, with 93,000 miles on it. it's been sitting for about six months or so with tranny problems of course. anyways i was going to ask your opinions on the tranny, should i get it rebuilt or get a new one? would about a shift kit or can i just adjust the shift points and firmness with a programer..thanks for the any help.

Aras,

Welcome to the forums.

First, the R/T's come with 3:92 gears.

Second, what is the problem with your tranny so we can give you a better accurate recommendation.

Some quick common questions to ask:

Have you changed the fluids on the tranny?
Have the transmission and speed sensors been changed?
Check engine light on?

sorry been kinda busy

the first time it would'nt upshift from 2nd to 3rd unless you manually shifted it or got the
rpm's to 4 grand and let off the gas also when driving 55-65 it would slip out of gear like someone shifted it in nutrual...so i changed the filter and fluid, that did'nt help much
so then i adjusted the bands and new filter/fluid..worked for a few hundred miles..now when in
idle and i put it in gear while holding brake it has a whine to it..like the pump is goin bad?..and yes the check engine light just came on..so i'm thinking just get it rebiult, a local guy here said $1750.00 to rebiuld it and flush out everything with a 1year warranty.

Aras,

Don't go to that last resort of rebuilding the tranny just yet. I went the the same problem you did and luckily for me, this problem was under my warranty period. My tranny won't upshift, from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd, etc.. Basically it wants to stay locked on the current gear it is in. I have to nail it hard to force it to upshift. Check engine light came on. Limped my Durango back to Dealer and they found out the Governor actuator switches went out. After replacing those switches, everything was running fine again.

So have the governor actuators checked out and possibly get them replaced and see how they go before you decide on a total rebuild.
