should i buy?
I'm looking at an '02 SLT, 4.7L fully loaded just no leather. It only has 42K on it and they're asking $12,900... I booked the truck and saw it was going for $16,300... Should I jump at this offer? I'm missing my '98 ever since I wrapped it around a tree.... What does anyone think? And what's this sludge business going into my radiator from the 4.7?
If no leather, then it isn't fully loaded. The SLT+ has a full option set that more than likely isn't on there since leather is with the SLT+ package. In regards to the options and the price however, if it has what you want and at a price you like, go for it!

I think it is a good price for a 02. Remember, 01 and later have 2nd generation interiors so there are more options vs the 1st generation interior. Yeah, 4.7 may have sludging issues so have that engine checked. Maybe wouldn't hurt to get some background info on the Durango. Hopefully this is a private seller and he is the original owner? Hopefully he has a good service log book setup on this D to show this D has been taken good care of.

i read earlier about someone using a filter to prevent the sludge from entering wherever...? where does the filter install? i'm decent with working on cars so i could install myself, just need to know more about the so called 'sludging'
I remember reading somewhere in this forum way way back about the 4.7 and the sludge problem. The sludge is created by a defective intake manifold gasket which slowly leaks antifreeze into the oil which in turn creates sludge buildup. the message post even mentioned a TSB on this manifold gasket replacement.
Some users just change the oil like every 2k or very often which gets expensive but can avoid the sludge buildup.
I don't know how you can check to see if a intake manifold gasket is going out or not without actually removing the intake manifold.
