Code: P0500-speed sensor malfunction
Just bought a 99 Dodge Durango (5.9L engine) check engine light came on after driving it for 2 days. Bought from private party who did inform me that the spedometer sticks until you are going just over 25 mph...........then the light came on. Diagnostic says code: P0500 or maybe PU0500? Speed sensor malfunction.........does anyone know if this is something I could possibly fix myself or if I would definitely need to take it to a shop to fix it, and if possible does anyone have a price estimate on fixing this problem? I'm just really hoping its not a huge problem, I need to get the vehicle smogged and this is causing an incomplete smog test!! Thanks for your help, love my new Dodge but need to get this taken care of!
welcome to DF...
most likely it's the speed sensor in the rear diff... takes about 10~15 minutes to swap out, easy fix. if you let it go, soon your abs light will come on.
