Default 2001 D 4wd engaging problem

Can anyone come up with a solution to this common problem, I have noticed that many questions about the same problem ie: no engagement lights and no noise and no 4 wheel drive, but I have yet to see a solution Anyone?

turns out it is the 2wd 4hi 4lo selector switch that is no good the dealer tried to tell me that it is another module and that taking the bezel off and replacing the module would be a 1000 dollars anyways I found the problem myself and let the dealer hear about their shoddy attempt to screw a customer no more dealer visits for me

This is on a newer electronic model with the selector switch on the dash?

Luckily for me, I always prefer the good ole mechanical floor shift selector.

Yeah that's one thing they should have left alone in the interior redesign. Sorry I can't be of help on your issue.

If only they can make some cars and trucks with less electronic gizmos, then they'll run forever! Makes me wish sometimes they go back to the old fashion carbuerted v8 with standard electronic ignition and don't have to worry about a PCM, and all that other stuff that can cripple a car/truck when they go out.

Which would make it easier to diagnose a problem when it did go...
