Default 98 Dodge Durango

My Durango is dead-won't start. After I've tried to turn it over, clicking sound from glove box starts but it stops when I open it and light is on. I read one reply to a posting of this nature and it was suggested that the security system needed to be reset by using the key in the passenger side door. However, a few years ago, I had locked myself out and the cop that responded could not get me in but did manage to mess up the lock on the passenger side door so that it does not work with the key any longer. Is there another way to reset security system?

Thanx,

Geneo

Take one of the cables off your battery should do the trick. I'm kinda having the same problem with my '98 not starting....some kind of mystery draw on the battery or alternator is bad....

Thanx Tattoohead.

Actually, I tried to reset the security system yesterday and then I got it started!! I thought all was okay. Then this am I was ready to leave for work and the same thing happened again--same symtoms...except now I've left my glove box open to stop the clicking, but today the glove box light stays off (not like yesterday when the glove box light would come on after about 15 min to a half hr-this indicated it cleared itself).

Anybody Please have any suggestions/ideas?????????????????????????

Thanx, Geneo

I'm thinking a bad connection or a bad battery. Have the batery load checked at Auto Zone. It very well could be a bad cell inside the battery shorting out the system. I would do that first. I've had stuff like that happen to mine and that was all it was.

ok thanx hydrashocker.

I did disconnect the neg on the battery after I check my security fuses, left the cable off for a while, reconnected and all is fine again--it cranked right over very strong. I hate to buy a new battery if it turns out to be something else, but I should get the battery checked out.

Thanx for your help. Anybody else got any ideas????

I like the new avatar green. Good job.

I'm sure that your problem is connection/battery.

Thank ya! I thought it was about time to change since most of the regulars have gone through about 3 and mine has stayed the same. I gotta get my recent pics up on the site or in my photobucket acct I just don't feel like waiting on the upload for the many pics I have to share.
