2000 D just shut off while driving it!
My 2000 Durango SLT 4X4 V8 just shut off while I was driving it today. I had to have it towed home. Never had this problem before. Now it shows the battery is dead so we charged it. Someone told us that it might be the moduler or regulator in the gas tank. The day before this happened I dropped my son off to school and when I got back into my truck it wouldn't start for 10 minutes. It finally started and the engine light came on. I went home and put anti-freeze because it was extremely low and checked the oil. Now it turns but doesn't turn over and start. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks

It could bve your fuel pump on it's way out or the fuel filter. TPS could be to blame as well. I would check these things first a filter and the TPS aren't going to be expensive so it would be best to try those before the fuel pump.
Ok, I'm going to check the fuel filter and pump first. TPS, that's the Throttle Position Sensor right? Do you think that it has anything to do with the computer like something electrical? Thanks
welcome to DF...
1st thought is the crank position sensor. w/o that signal, your motor wont run. there are several other possiblities but this I think is the most common.

TPS does mean the throttle position sensor as mentioned, however I think it's being confused with the idle control valve on the back of the throttle body. I'm assuming you have a magnum motor (5.2 or 5.9)... the iac can get dirty and cause it to stall when there is no throttle. if it died while you were coming to a stop or when you start it the motor wont continue to run on it's own and needs gas then 99% of the time it's the IAC valve that either needs cleaning (do this 1st) or it's dying and needs to be replaced.
if you were driving at say 25 mph and the motor just shut off then i'd look at the crank sensor 1st.
