On the rear hatch of my 98 durango there are 3 or 4 small rectangular holes (unsure what other years have these) these holes here in canada are covered by clear sticky plastic the hole were designed to let water and moisture escape but due to road noise issues they were covered so to get a longer rust free hatch i would suggust removing them

 

I don't see any problem with removing the tape. [&:]
