Default Shock Absorbers

I need to replace the shocks on my '99 Durango. (4x4 SLT, 5.2L eng)

I have seen a few reccommendations here and there, but most seem to be recommending high end performance shocks.

I plan to do the work myself, and really just want a nice comfortable ride. My wife drives the vehicle daily. She won't be taking it off-road (on purpose anyway...)

I hope some of the members here can reccommend a good shock that is (hopefully) well priced. and provides a comfortable ride.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think that the bilsteins are tooexpensive and they are a lot better than the stockers. They handle great on the road definitely one of the best things I've done for the D...

Thanks, Mean Green, but I have heard that the blisteins offer a "firmer" ride. (if thats the word I'm looking for) That they offer better stability but that they aren't necessarilly the most comfortable shock out there. I'll check them out though... thanks.

I understand what you're saying with that they are pretty firm and that's the cost of having better handling. The only other good shock that I have heard of that would be able to give you a softer ride are the adjustable Ranchos (I think they are the 9000's?).

Stay away from Monroe Sensa Trac's. They are expensive, and are
not good at all

Tokico Trekmasters are good shocks for on-road and light off-road, they are about $100 less than Bilsteins, I have had them onmy 98 for over a year and the vehicle handles better than it did with the stock shocks.

I replaced my OEM's with Monroe's reflex's. I think they are about one grade better than the sensatracks. Handling and comfort are just as well or better than OEM's. I cannot remember how much I paid for them but they are not much more in cost compared to the sensatracks.

I have the Rancho RSX9000's on my 2002 and have them set to 5 (out of 9). The ride is noticeably stiffer (and the handling MUCH better). I like it but passengers sometimes note the stiffness. If I set it down to1 the ride is quite plush (too much for my taste but more than likely what you're looking for). I recommend them.

What are good replacemetns for my D? I do mainly highway driving, with a fair bit of towing in the summer (camping), and the odd off-roading. Maybe 4 or 5 timesa year, but nothing too serious. (yet ) O im also planning on doing the T/S lift this spring.

Get the Bilsteins Deerang. They do awesome on the highway and aren't as much as the Ranchos (which would be nice for taking it offroad on the first setting apparently).
