Default High Mileage Durango

A buddy told me about his friend selling a 2003 top of the line Durango. He told me about all the bells and whistles and the owner is meticulous about his car. Really had me going when he told me the price, it was literally a steal. Now I find the drawback, it has 118,000 miles on it. I am still considering buying it. If it was serviced regularly, could this still be a good buy with a lot of life left in it? Thanks for any advice.

Mine is a 2000 4.7L with 250,000km (150,000mi) on it. Service records aren't perfect, but by no means has it been neglected.

The 5.2 and 5.9 are bulletproof engines. My only concern would be the tranny. DC dropped the ball on that one.

If it has been serviced and the trans has been serviced too, 118,000 is no problem.

167,000+ here and I'd jump in and drive from here (Indiana) to Florida/NewYork/California with no fears of failure.

*IF* you are still unsure, I am looking for another D for my son (his first car.) I'd be interested in buying it if you pass. PM and email me the info if you please.

Thanks,

It is a 2003. I am assuming it is the bigger motor. I know the owner uses it to tow snowmobiles. I need it to tow a small camper. I will know for sure when I see it today.

Hey guys,

I am new to the dodge forums, all you guys have great info about durangos. I have a mechanic at a chrysler dealership and he has a 2003 D with the 5.2l V8 and also said that the 4.7 is not much faster than the 5.2 but they are all bullet proof motors and will last along time if you put some TLC into her. MeanGreen thanks for the info you have been a great help.Deereng,I have the sameD like yours with the 4.7l V82000SLT and same colour how is your running?, mine has 167000km's.

Thanks all,

Since its been getting really cold out, I've been having a noisy lifter on start ups. Its noisy for maybe 2 mins, but i am concerned about it. Other than that engine runs great and pulls like a mother, even with the 3.55 rear end

Tranny works great, have yet to have a problem with it, I drive hard and tow a heavy camper trailer in the summer.

118,000 miles is not a big deal if the proper maintenence has been done. I have about 130k on mine and she is still running strong.
