Default Regular Unleaded vs. Premium Unleaded

I filled up over the weekend with Premium gas instead of Regular, and I was wondering if there's any real downfall (aside from paying more) or risk if I choose to run Premium instead of Regular permanently. My 98 Durango (5.2L V8) seems like it is running much better than it was when I was running Regular. Does anyone else run Premium full-time in their D?

Keep track of your gas mileage over atleast for one oil change using the low octane gas, than when you have your oil changed try using the higher octane and see if you gat better mileage.Using the oil change as a change point reduces the impact of the oil in the mileage calculations (yes fresh oil can make a big difference). The higher octane is most likely justgoing to be a waste of your money though, seeing as the 5.2 was designed to run low octane.

Daytona is right.

The '98/'99 5.2L was built for 89 octane. Unless you are getting pinging, or are running a special tune on the PCM, there is no value for you to switch.

Look in your owner's manual. They tell you what you should be running for optimal motor effeciency.

My D has got a lot of miles on it, at first i ran just the 89 but as the motor got a little older and i added peformance parts like ram air intake and the t/b spacer it would ping a little unless i used 91

99' 5.2L, short ram air intake,
T/B spacer, 3' Dynomax super turbo,
Summit Racing 8mm wire/cap and rotor kit,
bosh plugs, Optima red top, Kyb mono max shocks
and much much more to come
