DUAL EXHAUST
Gentlemen, and Ladies:
Does anyone know of an aftermarket dual exhaust system for a 2003 Durango. I have searched e-bay but so far no luck. Here are the parametetrs I am looking for.
2003 D 4.7 Magnum V8
I need aft of the CAT converter, and one that involves no removal of the spare tire, or no extra modifications other than minor welding or maybe cutting just forward of the muffler to split off into the second muffler.
Now for the second part of that question.
Is there a performance penalty or performance gain, I am not necessarily expecting much gain, but I do want to make sure I am not taking a performance hit.?
Is there a big cost involved with thie procedure?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve:
What are you wanting to gain with the duals? There kits for sale on Ebay that will give you the duals, but all that I have seen require removal of the spare.
It is my understanding that the factory system is much improved from 01 and newer. I have an 01, and from what I have read the actual gain would be very small which leaves the cosmetic issue.
I think you will find that your 03's factory exhaust is pretty decent unless you are planning on big time changes to the motor, ie turbo or supercharging.

One thing you can do is check out different manufactures and see there posted dyno results. If there are none, then most likely the gains were not substantial enough to post. Find one that has the best gains, then look for the sound that you would like. From there, simply get the specs of the muffler system, i.e. piping diameter, 1 or 2 mufflers, routing, ect. Take these specs to a local shop and have them fab one up for you. Not only will this save you money, but it allows you to put a louder or quieter muffler for your specific taste, while reaping the benefits of someone elses extensive dyno time.
Gentlemen, Thanks I guess it was mainly a cosmetic idea. I thought it might be a little simpler, but I really don't want to get involved with removing a spare tire, (I mean I enjoy and trust my 700 mile old Michelin X-Rads, but even that kind of trust only goes so far right?) I though dual exhaust would look cool, but I don't want to get tied up in a logistical nightmare. Thanks for the input, I am not getting into turbochargers, or all that stuff, just thought dual exhaust might look cool.

I don't remember who it was, but somebody on here has dual exhaust with their spare tire still in place. They got a muffler shop to route it around the tire. Single inlet - dual outlet muffler, and just tell the muffler shop to route around the spare tire. It can be done!
I have a magnaflow dual exhaust on mine, and the spares still on there. I just took it to a shop and he bent it all up. I'm pretty sure the D's are the same as daks back there
