My wife drives a 2000 Durango that doesn't heat up when she starts it to warm it up. Once she get in her cold car and starts driving the car will blow hot. I have read some other posts about the heater core being plugged, but since it will provide heat once it is being driven, I wouldn't think this would be the problem. Also the car is running for several minutes before so there is plenty of time for it to get warm.
I've noticed that it heats up a lot faster if you turn the front defrost/defogger on ONLY. So the vent that blows up on top of the dash. Keep that on high, and the warm air comes a lot faster, in my D at least. Once it gets warm you can change it to whatever you want.
Mine can idle for anhour without heat.I have to drive it for at least 20 minutes until I get hot air.It blows cold to luke warm air until then.I flushed everything so now I'm thinking the heater core is bad.
I had a new twist on the heat problem tonite. The heat was switching from the floor setting(where I had it) to the defrost setting every time the Durango downshifted and then back to the floor when it shifted.CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!
