The front a/c is blowing warm air but the rear is colder than a well digger's shovel. Bad evap in front maybe?

Welcome to the forum!! A buddy of mine had the same problem with this truck and it was a defective thermostat that caused the problem. Hope this helps!

I dont think the front evaporator will be the problem. The front and rear AC units use the same refrigerant system. If the front evap leaked out enough refrigerant for it to stop working, the rear wouldn't work either.

The thermostat could cause problems if allowing the vehicle to run too hot.

The first thing I would check is the temperature blend door in the front AC unit. I believe it is cable controlled on your Durango. If the temp blend door isn't moving all the way to the cold position, you wont be getting cold air out the vents. You may be able to see this from under the dash, looking at the bottom of the HVAC box on the passenger side toward the center of the truck.

If that checks out ok, you may want to have an AC performance test done. The temperatures of the inlet and outlet to the evap can pinpoint problems with the expansion valve. You would really need this on an AC machine so running pressures can be compared with the temperature readings. Probably best left to a technician with good AC experience.

Know your limitations is my motto. Water pump, rear speed sensor replacement, and busting my knuckles changing spark plugs stretched my capabilities.
Other than poking around under the dash looking for the temp blend door, this is looking like a job best left to the pros.

No difference.

I very rarely use the rear a/c and didn't even think to check it until I read that both systems use all but just a few of the same components.

I have a 99 SLT 4X4 5.2L

Had the same problem, dealership changed out the thermostat, the thermostat housing and... something else. I think it was the evaporator but not sure. Oh, and one of the hoses, since I had a tiny refrigerant leak.
