Default Need Help! AC Leak Condensation Buildup

Need some help! I have a 2000 SLT 4x4 with the 5.9 Durango.....I have always noticed that after a long drive in humid weather on a hot day with the ac running I get a lot of condensation buildup. Usually the glove box has some water in it and the driver's vent has some condensation that will drip out. Today I went to investigate and pulled up the passenger's side carpet to find a puddle of water underneath! I mean the entire carpet, foam and all was soaked in water. There must have been at least a half gallon on water build up. So my question is where is it coming from. It is definitely water. Could it be the drain hose is plugged up? I tried looking for a hose but could not find one. I think I read about this happening to some other people too. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

I've read that there's a drain tube that exits into the fire wall. if that's clogged or pulled back it ends up draining into the cab. hope that helps ya

Thanks.....the evaporator was replaced about 6,000 miles ago. perhaps the dealer did not hook up the drain hose? Is it on the passenger or driver's side firewalll.....looked everywhere and could not find a place where it would come out the firewall.....found one hose that ran from passenger side firewall up near the radiator into some sort of canister....looked like a vacuum hose though...also found a hose running out the side finder...that looks like the radio antenna.

My guess is look for a rubber type hose problaby at least a minimum of a few inches in length that will extend out of the firewall? Problaby on the passenger side as that is where the A/C freon hoses go into. I heard the tube will stick out and problaby drip near on on the exhaust pipe? Which would also indicate passenger side. Once you find it, you can try to pull a good suction on the tube to see if anything comes out by using a big syringe. If you want to apply positive pressure, use a air can and see if that can unclog it.

If you have water in your glove box, I would think the problem is comming from within the dash (maybe the far passanger vent ducting). You may have to remove the glove box (if possible) or the entire dash to find the problem as it would seem to be coming from the very top of the firewall.

I had a simular problem in my S-10 after installing an amp in the back and running a power wire from the battery under the hood, over the fire wall (hidden by the body panels) and running into the passanger door, down the door post, under the kick plane, under the carpet and to the amp. Never happened before the power wire install and after removing the power wire the water build up stopped. Don't know if this will apply to you, but something to keep in mind.

A temp solution, drill a hole in your passanger floor board to drain water until you get it fixed. This will at least help the carpet from staying socked all the time.

Update....

Ok found the drain hose...on the passenger side...barely sticked out about half an inch or so and it was hidden under a heat shield so it was very difficult to locate. Basically put some silicon sealant around the drain tube and also from the inside of the firewall...Looks like the condensant was running off the hose and back into the foam sealant and back into the car. Also ran a wire hanger about a foot back in to see if it was clogged. Well it has been about a week now and no signs of water in the cabin at all! Also looks like more water is dripping on the pavement after running the car so maybe the drain hose was clogged also. Thanks for the help and I hope this helps anyone else with similar problems. Lets hope I fixed the problem for good! My Durango also made it ok through Hurricane Francis!....BTW is there suppose to be a 90 degree hose off the ac drain hose? I was thinking of adding one as that would have kept the water from dripping back off the horizontal hose. Did not know if maybe mine fell off? Thanks!
