Default 99 Durango surges/missing

My wife has a 99 Durango 5.9 with 89,000 she told me last week that it has a surge or some type of miss to it when at cruising speed. We swithched trucks and today it did it for the first time When you are at crusing speed not accelerating it has a miss or surge to it just like she stated. When it started to do it I hit the overdrive off and it quit doing it also when you accelerate it does not do it. I have driven it about 500 miles and this is the fist time it has done it. I bought her this truck new and have done all the scheduled maintenance on it. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Throttle Position Sensor.

DEFINITELY TPS sensor. Same exact thing happen to me. Only happens when cruise control is on. Most likely you problaby do not see a check engine light either. Napa sells it for around $3x.xx and very easy do it yourselfer. Sensor is located on driver's side of the Throttle body. Remove 2 allen bolts and sensor slides out.

Thanks guys for the response. I replaced the TPS last night. Hopefully this will keep the wife happy. Should know in a few days. Thanks again. Dave

I fixed this same problem on my 98 by replacing the TPS so you should be ok. Keep us posted. Good luck.

I have replaced the TPS and am still having problems. Now the durnago seems to be doing the same thing but more noticeable when you are pulling a hill with minimal acceleration. When you step on the accelerator it will stop but when you are going up a hill it is like it is missing or surging. It will sometimes do it when you are taking off from a stop. I have also noticed it more when the engine is warmed up. Any suggestions Thanks Dave

Are you running aftermarket ignition components?
