Default Chime is driving me crazy...

I am the (usually) happy owner of a 2002 Durango. About a month ago, the warning chime began to chime intermittently - usually 1-5 minutes apart after driving 20 minutes or so. With my commute being 25 minutes or so, I decided to try and figure this out myself and could tolerate 5 minutes of dinging.

I thought maybe a door switch was shorted someplace but after many different combinations of testing have ruled this out. I was able to find a post on this forum with a simalar issue recommending to change the battery, which I did, but did not result in any improvement.I tried to disable the seatbelt chime as written in the manual which I was able to do before, but still the issue remains. Finally yesterday, the ringing started after 5 minutes of driving and occurs about every 30 seconds. I have a literal ringing in my head before I even get to the office or home to my wife and kids!! No warning lights have ever come on, I am havingzero other electrical issues, and the truck is driving/sounding great (mechanically).

Maybe thePCM has gone bad? - but have read that I should be having other electronic issues in addition tothe incessant ringing. If so, is this something I can do myself or do I need the dealer to perform any programming on it if I source the part?

I'd like to try and fix this myself as my faith in my local Dodge Dealers is shaky at best due to past experiences and consider myself relatively intuitive. I would be much obliged if anybody could offer some insight to a possible solution. Thanks in advance for your help!

Let hte truck run in your driveway until it starts, listen for the chiming to come from around the steering column and find the little speaker that is making the noise and disable it. That is what I would do!

Thanks for the response...That's exactly what I did last night. The speakeris solderedto a circuitboard found in a plastic holder to the left of the e-brake. I had that littleplastic speaker in my hand and was ready to rip it off but wimped out. I was afraid I would do additional irreversible damage to the board. Do you think I'd be OK to "manually" remove this?

Thanks again for the help!

If you're that worried about maybe messing anything else up just be gentle and clip the wire then you could twist it back together if any problems arise, although I wouldn't be too worried about messing anything up it's just a speaker
