Buzzing sound under the dashboard
The wife just picked up a reasonably priced Intrepid. In going over it, I found a few issues. Most I can deal with but there is this one problem.....
1994 ES
3.5 motor
98k miles
It had a dead battery at the dealer. His thought was that since it had been there a while and the battery was older that it needed a new one and he provided same. But I'm wondering if this was a byproduct of the problem I'll describe here instead of being "thee" problem.
To the right of the dash comes a buzzing type sound, almost sounds like a tiny fan running. Just below the passenger airbag and behind the glove compartment interior, not audible from under the hood.
Did some tests to try and track it down and determined...
(1) If it's humming, it has no relation to any switch left on.
(2) Turning the key on/off will stop it.
(3) It will start by itself whether or not the car's been running. There is no noticeable pattern as to why or when it turns on.
A wild guess is, left to its own devices, it will eventually drain the battery. Any ideas?
