Default steering question

hey guys i know this is a shot in the dark. My Intrepid is pushing 165k and is beat to hell. I got it for free from my sister when cash for klunkers said they would not take it. Basically the steering is really really sloshy to the right and left. I have not really looked into this deeply. Just curious if anyone had any ideas?

I think it might be the inner tie rods ends / linkage. Which is located behind the manifold.

Thoughts?

Proably... The parts are cheap (10-15) for a replacement bushing kit. It's a bit tight as far as the work area but not too bad if you remove the wiper motor and frame it's mounted to.

Have someone turn the wheel while you look at the rack and pinion. They are known to move due to mounting bushings wearing out. The whole unit will move if this is the case. It should be stationary and not move at all...left and right that is. Very little movement up and down is ok.
