Default Squeal from front brakes 1997 Intrepid 3.5 ES

I changed the front brake pads 6 months ago, and the after a short while the wheels have started to squeak as I drive. Slightly pressing the brake peddle the sound stops/disappears.

We have sand walls here in Vegas, 6 foot walls surrounding many subdivisions and it seems we are always driving along in a canyon, and this makes the sound amplify, driving me nuts...

I drive about 4,000/6,000 miles per year not a lot compared to the average auto owner, I ride my bike, take the bus and walk in the fall, winter, and spring. But it is difficult to balance a weeks grocery in my hands, so am forced to use the car and the brake noise is horrid when the windows are down... In the summer with the windows shut tight, air conditioning working overtime, and the radio playing the brake squeal & emergency vehicle are difficult to hear...

Also the dash lights "trac off" & "ABS" are coming on and off. I also get a humming when depressing the brake peddle occasionally during a short trip around the neighborhood... There is a switch to the left of the dash lights that appears to be a control for this function, but it does nothing when depressed, it does not appear to be an efficient on off toggle switch by design.

I have three separate brake problem symptoms:
1. Squeak from wheels while driving, touching brake peddle it disappears.
2. Dash lights "trac off" & "ABS"
3. Humming as I press the brake peddle

While I know nothing about 2 or 3, the squeak is most likely from your calipers dragging slightly. You need to make sure you grease the slides for the pads and remove all rust and it also helps to put some anti squeal between the pad and piston. These Intrepids are notorious for light brake drag and squeal because of the design of the slides

The track switch will turn off the traction control and when it is off the light comes on. If the light is already on due to a malfunction, the switch will not turn the light out. With the ABS and track cont light comming on at the same time, I'd say one of your front wheel speed sensors are malfunctioning or maybe when you removed the disk & caliper, maybe you didn't install somhing correctly. Start with an inspection of your work area.
