Default wobble in the steering

I have a "97 Dodge Intrepid that has developed a wobble in the steering. It seems to come and go, but it is getting worse. Any ideas on what is going on?

Does it get worse, get better, or stay the same when you apply the brakes? when you turn left? turn right? accelerate?

May be a wheel bearing but check the tie rod ends first. If they break you will loose control. My '95 intrepid eats tie rod ends, especially the inner ones connected to the power steering. It is right above the transmission and behind the top of my 3.3 engine. Very poor heat protection makes the rubber bushings break down faster.

So, check Tie Rod End bushings, wheel bearings, may also check A-arm I had to replace my lower A-arm bushings but I forget what the symptoms are for that. Keep in mind mine is a '95 and I don't know what changes were made if any for the '97 but for safety sake check the tie rods first.

I'm having the same issue with my '97 that I just got. My uncle works in a repair shop for Dodge and said that it's probably a drive line going bad. Those run about $50 a pop if that's the issue.

Looking at the manual I just picked up, it could also be "worn or damaged inboard or outboard CV joints"

Steering problems on the LH cars can almost always be fixed or greatly improved by replacing the inner tie rod ends. On the first gen I would also recommend replacing the cradle bushings, if those are bad you will hear a random clunk, loose steering, random wandering, etc... On my car I replaced them with poly bushings from www.polybushings.com (which are actually cheaper than OE) and it felt like an entirely different car.

Easy inspection...jack the car and push/pull on the tire and inspect where the slip is. I'm leaning toward the inner tierod ends.
