Default Headlight problem

I have a '96 Intrepid and the headlights are giving me problems.

Occasionally, when I turn the dial to turn on the lows, they do not come on. However, when I clicked the hi beams and clicked them off, the lows would come on.

Now, I click the high beams and I really have to pull it to get it to click, and it doesn't stay. So now my lows don't turn on. The only way to get the lows on are to pull back but not to the clicking point so the highs engage, then let off slowly and the lows are on. When I turn the dial off, the lights stay on. The highs do not stay on either, as when I click, it does not stay.

Any idea what is going on. I thought there is a piece in the column that controls the hi/lows, is it that, or is some component broke since the hi will not click and stay?

Thanks for your response in advance, I appreciate it.

BTW, the fuses for the lows and high's are fine. Any ideas?

Will a replacement multi-function switch solve the problem?

I had the same problems with my 97 intrepid. Replace the multi function switch. Just remove the shroud around the steering column, unplug and replace.
