Default fuel filter question

I know I've posted regarding a fuel filter on a 97 DOHC before, but I have another question. The directions DAS gave me and the directions in my Haynes manual differ from the part available at Advance Auto. The one at the auto part store isn't the filter that is on the fuel pump, it is a stand alone, with three hoses coming out of it. Any clarification is appreciated. I did a quick visual yesterday, and it looks like my car might have both???

Since you have a 97 you should have the plastic fuel tank. So you have a combination fuel filter/pressure regulator.

Do yours look like this though???

I believe it does. It's along the passenger side frame rail, I believe.

I believe it's plastic. I'll know more in about 1 hour, after I get my son to preschool, and I'll check it out.

Maybe I'm confusing the situation. The tank FEELS plastic,if that makes sense. I have a friend who works at a garage, and he looked at it about 3 months ago, and he said I had 2 fuel filters? That is why I'm confused. My fuel pump has the silver-ish filter on top, just like spud's pic, but it also has the other thing. Unfortunately, my daughter broke my camera, so no pics for now. It's not that I'm having poor performance, yet. I just would like to change the filter, as it might be the original one that's 10 years old.
