Default Gas Tank Problem

I went 2 start up my car and it wouldnt start...so i checked under the car and found liquid all over the ground which turned out 2 be gasoline...I look up and it seems to have come from the gas tank but i cant find where because its hard to get under right now...how could i fix a hole in my gas tank once i find it or how much would a new tank cost?

Is there any way to repair it? i'd like to just fix it if in any way thats possible. Could it be anything besides the tank like maybe a hose or something? Pretty much all the gas drained out and thats why it wont start, i just gotta find out how to fix it so it'll keep gas in the tank

i don't suggest plugging it, cause whatever you plug it with could detrioate and screw your engine over, injections, valves etc, and yeah, i'd buy another one personally.
sorry

Is it plastic or metal? I think some of the early Neon’s were metal and the later ones were plastic. I'm not sure if there is a satisfactory way to repair plastic tanks. Metal tanks can be welded if you can find a shop that is setup to do it safely (don’t try this at home) but, a welded tank is prone to rusting as the welding burns off the protective coating. Best bet is to find a new or used tank.

I did just have a new fuel pump put in about two days ago, could it be caused by that? or maybe by something related or caused by when it was put in. The whole tank wasnt drained out it was only a small amount, i had thought it was all but there was more in the tank then i previously thought.

i believe all tanks after 90 are plastic, but held in by metal reinforcements...fuel pump shouldn't really have much to do with a leak, unless the leak is in one of the lines or something, but it sounds like the actual tank has a hole in it, and yeah do not weld a metal tank at home lol

are you sure the gas fill tube didn't rot out? mine did. I used jb weld epoxy to fix it. the stuff is advertised to work on fuel tanks. get a half gallon of gas and have someone put in while you watch where it comes out underneath

What year is your car? 95 and early 96 neons had metal gas tanks, after that they switched to plastic.

If you had the fuel pump replaced recently, then I'd look there first for an incorrect install.

if the pump was replaced then i would deffinately check that
if it has the plastic tank then sumtimes it is hard to correctly replace the gasket between the pump and the tank....of 1 of the lines may not be connected correctly

if it has a metal tank....there is a drain nipple on the lower portion of the pump that usually has a plug on it...that plug tends to rot out after a while causing a leak....
