Ok I seen a 98 neon dodge neon for sale for $150. The body is in perfect condition. I talked to the guy he said the transmission overheats, and doesn't shift good. It doesn't have a code or anything popping up. He said it probably needs a new transmission filter. I was wondering if a filter would fix an overheating and shifting problem? Thanks alot

 

What does the transmission fluid look and smell like? Also check for damaged (bent/crimped cooler lines) If it’s badly burnt and discolored then it may be too late for just a fluid and filter change.

For the cost it is worth trying the fluid and filter change plus band adjustment first.

If the rest of the car is in good condition as you say then $150.00 is a steal even it you have to replace the transmission. There should be lots of used transmission’s available at the wrecker’s lots for cheap.
