Default First time owner w/ problem. Help!!!

Howdy. I just bought a 1998 Plymouth Neon with a 2.0 SOHC and 126,XXX miles on the odometer. I am the second owner, and the first owner kept up with all the maintenance schedules and recalls,. The engine is top notch and has plenty of pep left in it, and the auto tranny shifts smooth. The problem I have is the same day I bought it I noticed the speedo, gas, and temp gauges twich a few times while driving (a few hours after purchase, figures...[:@]), and now all the needles are dead and the odometer won't count up. I'm hoping it's one part of the vehicle that is causing all of this. Can anyone give me some insights on this??? Thanks in advance.

Yup, just found that above. Thanks. Guess I'll be ripping apart the %^&ing dash to get to the cluster circuitboard. [:@][:'(][:@][:'(]

yea it doesn't take that long. just lift the top part off and then its only a couple screws and then pull the cluster towards you.

Well, it corrected itself now, but now I know what the problem is and how to fix it. It definitely is the solder problem as discussed in the cluster link, but what instigated it is I was fiddling with the trip odometer which had apparently long since bought the farm, and as I was pushing it in repeatedly I might have used a little more force than I thought, because it wasn't more than a few miles afterward that the cluster went hokey. So now I know I need to open it up and resolder it, no prob.

Another interesting thing I noticed. Not only did it take all the gauges when it went, but it also took the IDIOT lights as well. As all those banked off the same wiring?

^^^ when i replaced my cluster it worked great. no problems what so ever. and then it would randomly start to go on and off every 2 weeks or so. and now whenever i start my Neon up i have to push on the cluster to get it to work. so yea get it fixed as soon as u can.

There are two multi pin connectors so depending what pins are loose it can cause different portions of the dash to go out. The repair is quite simple as long as you have a small soldering pencil and a torques driver for the screws. It shouldn’t take more than 30 min. or so. By the way if you need to replace any dash bulbs, the only place I’ve been able to find them is Dodge (the bulb and the base are all one peace).
