Default question about fusable link

if the fusible link burnt up would that kill all power to the whole car. Meaning no power to starter, all lights, brake lights, dash lights, radio. i mean complete loss of all power. by the way its a 97 sohc with 170,000 miles. checked battery( tested at autozone) pos and neg cables look good, grounds seem ok. atleast the ones i can see. checked fusesin black box behind battery and theones inside car by drivers side door.or could i have blown power distribution box behind battery?

and while im at it can anyone tell me where the fusable link runs. i read it connects to the starter or seliniod and runs to the alternator. is that correct? does it run in front of the engine to alternator orwrap around behind engine?

It's a black wire that connects to the starter. The link being burnt out wouldn't kill all power, but it might not let the car start up.

thanks for the response im looking for something that would kill all power to neon. no headlights brake lights, interior lights, no starting or cranking of the engine. had battery tested at autozone, its good. fuses in pdc good, fuses in drivers side panel good. battery cables ok (pulled them off posts and used steel wire brush to clean them.) visible grounds look good. but couldnt find fusible link from starter to alternator. the only evidence of power i see is when i turn key fuel gauge needle climbs or moves. any ideas?

if it wont start with good battery how will jump starting be any different?( i only ask becaause that doesnt make sense to me.) does jumpstarting allow more current to flow.

To retest the battery. If not, then you are gonna have to look at all your connections and grounds. You might also want to pull the battery tray out and see if there are any corroded wires under the PDC.

was rechecking grounds with flash lite in dark and turned headlights on (dont work though) to see if i moved some wire and got power to them. and i ran my hand across positive battery post and the dam thing was flaming hot. so im assuming its might be ground on neg side?
