Default my A/C breathes fire

Well itdidnt take long now and I am getting tired of feeling like a burger that needs flipped when sitting in stop and go traffic. My A/C compressor iskickin on and off but there is no cold, so I assume the freon must have leaked out over time again. My question is if it is cheaper and easy to refill the freon yourself or do I need to spend the extra money to have a mechanic do it? Also I hear that it isnt good for the compressor when there is no freon and it could eventually seize?

Well if it ins't blowing cold air why would you have the A/C on?

It would be cheaper if you do it yourself, but you do run the risk of overfilling if you don't have the gauges. It isn't difficult to do.
