Air Conditioner
My daughters’ ’95 Neon, AC was not working (blowing warm air), I took it to an AC place and they checked it, and told me the AC compressor was leaking and needed a new one, $689 P/L.
They left enough residual 134a in the system that the AC was blowing cool air, went to AutoZone and got a refill kit with 134a with a sealer additive. Filled the AC system, and this morning the AC still working nice and cold (maybe a slow leak).
1. Are the AC compressors on the Neon’s subject to leaks?
2. Could a simpler “O” ring replacement be more appropriate?
3. Did the shop have a slow day and I was being ripped off?
I will wait a few days and see how the AC does before going to another place for a second opinion.
Thanks for any insights you all may have.

i looked at compressors and they were over 400 but im sure a lot of ppl on this forum have them lying around and would sell cheap. one thing im not sure of is they were selling them with in line diode and with out inline diode . . . I dont know which one I would need cause i have that same problem except i dont get cold air at all and i just charged the system. Im thinking either i have a bad compressor or bad wiring
Same problem..
Except I dont get warm air.. I just get fan blown air basically haven't driven the car yet.. So just idling for a little while it was just fan air and no really cooling to it..
I dont know how to re-charge it.. Kind of new when it comes to newer cars.. As I've always delt with older trucks with no A/C or any extras..

when mine went bad i got another one from the junkyard
but the a/c place didn't recharge it well so now it doesnt work...
no leaks or anything
we put it back on and connected everything
they just suck at recharging...

on the passeger side there is a valve on the line you take off and you can buy a kit at wal mart (R134a recharge kit) and read the cans directions. pretty simple these days
oh damn!
well i'm gonna see if the place will recharge it for free since it hasn't even been a year
if they dont then i'll do that
thanks man!

Thanks everyone for the input.
I am going to wait and see how long it takes for the 134a to leak out, then I think I will buy the "O" ring kit for $4 and replace those, before having any other work done
It's been two days and the AC still ice cold
