No ist not. It sbad to pressure wash the PCM and maybe alternator alot, but its definatly not bad to clean your engine bay. I just did this a few days ago cause my cars engine was not really pretty. What I did:

*Made sure car was off and engine was somewhat cool
*Pressure wash entire engine bay (watching out to spray directly on the alternator. PCM and right on my wires)
*Soaked engine in Simple Green wash (get it pretty mcuh anywhere)
*Let sit for 15-20 minutes
*Pressure wash engine bay again
*Let dry and then I used an air compressor to blow out any water that was left
*Once almost completely dry I used tire shine (heard about doing that from other forums) and put it on all the parts I wanted to get shiny
*Then I let my car run for about 5 minutes making sure everything was ok

My engine bay was very clean. Myabe not super show car quality, but for me it looked awesome. Again, this is only how I did it. Others may have different ways

im concerned with water sitting in the pits for the spark plugs, i guess the compressed air should take care of that?

yeah on my sprak plug wires there is a little thing that pretty much seals the whole top of the spark plug tube, and then it just blew the water that was on top of the valve cover off. I didnt have any water in the spark plug tubes at all. You could also blow out all the water and then take a towel and dry whatever you want too, just to be safe I guess. My car is fine though.

Once your engine warms up all the excess water will evaporate anyhow

Just go to a self car wash and do everything there. You wont have an air compressor or somethin of that sort but you can take towels and if you see any water you could just dry it up with the towels and then just start it up and let the water evaporate.
