Default Air conditioning

First of all.. I have never delt with air conditioning.

Every car me or my parents have ever owned I think maybe only 1 had working A/C

I want mine to work now. But i am not sure how to go about it. I have a 96 neon... seems to blow air but that is about it. I am told that it can be very expensive to get it working.. but i dont have a ton of money so if there are any techniques that is always a + ..

I am not sure what to look for or how to tell its not working 100% other then the no cold air..

Thank you.

Just turn on your A/C see if the compressor cycles on and off. Ur rad. fan should do the same. If it does that means you have some 134a freion in your system but very little. Now go to Kmart or walmart and get a can of refrigerant with the hose attached. Then put it in it should stop cycleing when it is near full. Read the instructions on the can and you can do it.
