how to tell when stuts are bad?
I understand that when you push down on your car, you car should go right back up. That means that the struts are good. But when you have a strut that has been taken off a car and is in your hand, then how can you tell if the strut is bad? Also how can you tell if the spring is bad?
if you push down on your car the springs will push the car back up not the strut. the job of the strut is to take most of the shock from the bumps in the road. To check the strut while it is out of the car to see how easy you can push the shaft down. If it takes no effert then more than likely it is bad. you should be able to move the shock alittle. If you can't.Then replace them. Replace them in pairs, but it would be best to replace all four at once.
