Neon vs Flash Flood
Today me and my cousin were cruising around and a severe thunder Storm drenched the area heavily for about a half hour to an hour and all my windows were fogging up because I had to close them and it was 90 degrees outside and I couldnt make out much outside through the rain and fogged up windows and I came apon a road that was submerged in 1 foot of water and by the time I could tell what I was in I was allready in it!
So I figured I was going to be stalled andpray my car doors dont leakif I sat there,I decided to floor it and Imade it through about 300feet of this 1 foot deep water covered road to make it to high ground(I wouldnt have did this if I had notknown the road). The engine bogged a little bit but lucky the coil pack and wires are on the top of the engine so that prevented 90% of the chance of getting wet.I threw it in first and basically had no power steering as my belts were slipping in the submerged enginecompartment (I'm pretty sure my alternator got a good bath in water,I also forgot to put the wheel well shield on from when i changed the alternator last year! so it really got drenched!) I plowed a good wave that flew 5 feet in the air on each side of the car. I am very proud of the little Neon as it took to the water great and was able to survive a feat many cars behind me who tried to flollowgot stranded in.
The car was built surpirsingly solid and sealed great!I had no water inside the car at all (even though water on the road eclipsed the bottum of thedoors)and once in firstgear navigated the water like it was meant for it.
Everything runs great on the car in the aftermath of the flood crossing but I have a check engine light on nowthat I need to run the code on my OBD-2 scanner to see whats wet...lol

i had a similar experience with my 1st neon about a week after i had a new motor put in it because the timing belt broke.....
i was driving down a road to pick up my girlfriend at the time....went in a little dip that had enough water in it to completely cover the tires[&:].......ended up the puddle was about 200 feet long...
i barely made it through to the other side of the puddle when the car died....(the back tires were still in the water).....so, the motor froze up and i had to get another one[:@]
me and the gf pushed the car to her driveway and about an hour later, the spot my car died at was under 5 feet of water.....
only way i could get home was in the bucket of a front loader john deer tractor....and the water almost covered the back tires of the tractor[&:]
