My sony explode head unit has decided to start cutting in and out of the radio but still plays cd's fine.
The FM will work one day and static the next, sometimes it trades off.
The head unit is 6 years old maybe 7, and ive checked the antenna in back.

Do you guys think its the radio, or is there something deeper in the car i should check first. I want to get a new head unit if the radio is bad, but dont want to buy a new one unless i know thats the problem.

Any suggestions?!?!?!?!

 

Have you checked the antenna? If the CD works, but AM/FM gives issues I'd check the antenna plug in the back of the Sony and also at the antenna itself.

 

i checked it in the back and everything is tight......how can i check the antenna itself??????

 

i have never had very good luck with sony radios....i put an almost brand newsony in my car the other day and ran into alot of static with the radio.....replaced it yesterday with a kenwood deck and havent had any problems yet

 

I would say get a new radio. I have never had any luck with sony.

 

Pioneer makes the best radios, I had one in my neon until it got stolen[:@]

 

Pioneer does make good radios, but I have a Clarion. there good too.

 

i always use pioneer unless its in my work cars since they dont last long in there anyways....but in the red r/t and durango, i always have a pioneer....
the last 1 i had was stollen though.....why take a $800 cd player, but not the harness????

 

the head unit is like 7 years old on top of things, i just didnt wanna buy a new unit if my antenna on the car was bad and i could replace it for 10 bucks.

Ive already dropped about 500 on the neon in the last 2 weeks getting it roadworthy for moving in sept.

Any head unit model numbers to recommend, im thinking either a pioneer or a kenwood. something in the 100-160$ range
