Default PCV Valve Question

So i was putting on a CAI and put a breather on the PCV and with was really corroded and it just fell out. So i went to autozone and picked up a new one and tried putting it in and it wouldnt go in. I was wondering if its just really hard to push in or if there is a special way to put it in. Also, is there a chance a piece could have broken off inside?

if the valve on your just connects to the valve cover then the hose must have been repalced before or just left off...
there should be a few inches of hose that comes off the valve cover.....then the pcv valve....then more hose that goes to the valve cover
