Gas Saving In a Manual??
ok so here are some of the things ive heard of to save gas in a manual First off start off in second and instead of shifting into third shift into fifth but i also just skip 4th unless im raceing
so anyone else know some gas savers or are these even true??

if u start in 2nd your clutch will wear out faster. I read my owners manual about a week ago and i decided to try their shift points and going about 55-60 on the highway...when i refilled yesterday i averaged 43mpg. hehe. oh and the owners manual does say that if your just cruising at like 35 you can put it into 5th. the RPMs drop to like 1200-1300.
i usaully drive in fifth at 1000 rpms through town and just leave it there until a stop light
1st 2nd 5th
i havent really been a fan of the 2nd gear starting but just heard it saves gas... yeah neoncrazy i dont ahve a speedo so i just go
but i usually 4th gear at 2500 rpms is 50 well thats what everyone else does in the 50mph zone so ill prolly got to 3500 then shift to 5th and stay there

too low of RPM in a high gear will cause gear chatter and pretty much trash your transmission over time
if you ever hear it growling when your on the throttle at low rpm in a high gear - thats the gears chattering back & forth.
\getting good mileage isnt all about low RPM, its all about the least amount of effort the engine needs to keep it moving,
say if your in 5th gear at 35 going uphill it requires more pedal to keep that speed than in 4th gear.
more load uses more fuel.
if i shifted mine at 2000 all the time it would just drink gas, 3-3500 in most of the gears it wouldnt use ****.

ok thank Racer ill keep that in mind ill remember that when im driveing i just figured what you said about effort saving gas and at 1000rpms thats not much effort but you say its bad for the trans so i wont do it but 4th gears sucks in my car
but hopefully ill fix that tomorrow
but hopefully ill fix that tomorrow

to map out delivery van travel to use as many right turns as possible.
This simple switch in the routes driven reportedly saved UPS
about 5% of the fuel they previously consumed before the switch.

I was really surprised at the gas mileage I got one trip.A friend of mine did'nt inform me that I could not stay overnight, untill 2:30 in the morning.I live about 55-60 miles away from the town where all my friends live.I did'nt have a dime to my name that night, and my gas gauge was just a little bit above empty.I was keeping the rpms as low as possible that night, and I did not go over 55mph once. The needle was on empty about halfway home.I made sure the needle did not move at all going up or down hills. At that point I hit my odometer to see how far I could go on empty..before I ran out.Luckily the car got me all the way home and to a gas station 3 miles away the next day, the odometer read 28 miles.
All I can say is..Im REALLY glad the neon has a heck of a reserve..
Oh and Im only using 1 oxygen sensor so I think my neon runs rich also.Im thinking If I get a o2 sensor hooked up after the cat, it should help my gas mileage even more?
