Oil Sludge???
what is this oil sludge that all the tv ads talk about...
does the type of oil you use acutually affect your car differantly.. im not tlaking about the weights but the brands like the Ace brand oil is like 2 dollers and penzoil is like $3 and Castrol full synthetic is like $5 for the quart bottles... so does it matter what oil i use???

all that i know is don't go with quaker state of mind my engine mentor and i had got my bonnevilles block torn apart and sludge every where and i have seen it more times then i wanted too(i get to presser wash the blocks onece in a while[:@])but who knows how they are now a days....i alwaysrecomend shell or valvoline
From STP's website...
Sludge is a thick, sticky residue that can form inside your engine through a combination of combustion by-products (oil oxidation residue, carbon and water). Water condenses as a result of a hot engine cooling down. The oil mixes with the resulting water and forms the thick sludge that sticks to the engine parts. Frequent cold starts and short trips contribute to this condition, by not allowing the engine oil to heat up enough to vaporize and remove the water. Sludge is detrimental in that it can clog key oil passages such as oil drain-back holes and, in some cases, block the oil pick-up screen in the oil pan, causing engine oil starvation (i.e., not enough oil). STP® Oil Additive products contain detergents, which can help suspend sludge in the motor oil, preventing it from accumulating inside your engine.
i use to have some good shot of some chocolate pudding sludge but couldn't find em.
Yes there is a diffrence between the cheaper oil and the more expensive( i use castrol). the cheaper stuff has been refined less that the expensive stuff. So if you know anything about refineing they have this tall tower that they cook crude oil at the bottom. In each level of this tower there are collecting trays, so thecrude is cooked and that the first tray will collect tar the next is like wax or something. Then it goes to oil then diesel, gas, and kerosene. better oils have a higher degree of refinement and are purer.

Higher quality oils also start out with a better base stock
with a better base stock??
so will useing differant oil actually add peformance or hp like the TQ brand or the full synthetic?? cuz ive seen the commecial which has like a ferrari doing a donut in a barn for the TQ Brand So Which Oil is most recomeded..
cuz this last oil change i did on sunday i just used ace brand cuz i didnt have much money and it was 1.99 a Quart.

THANKS Das For The Info and you others for the oil facts...

i think hes talking about the crude that they fisrt start with before they refine it.
the main thing about oil is its ablity to maitan lubrication. Some cheaper ones dont have as many stabilizing addives, and are not as pure than expensive ones. i have used mostly castrol, valvoline, and mobil .
as for hp......i could help compression if it was already bad

EDIT viscositys are also extremely improtant for proper engine lube
