In an all not to distant past, this image strikes an interesting pose of history.

AMC 1976

Here's another few shots.

I've noticed many design ques from the 1976 Pacer front facia and the first generation Neons being very much similar in design. The round headlights on the Neon and their spacing along with the front grill work over the bumper share the same ques. The front ended view of the Neon's cab forward design is also found in the Pacer too.

One good thing Chrysler did was to eliminate anything from the Pacer's front fenders reward.

Well, if you don't see it, that's fine. I thought I would share what I knew from some AMC Design Engineers that worked for Chrysler after the acquisition.

Remember, the Neon concept vehicle was taken off of the Voyager III concept vehicle first. And where do you think that styling came from.

So, has anyone taken a look at the Voyager III concept vehicle to actually see how a small car like the neon + people mover atttachment could take place?

Here's a few early snapshots of the concept.

I see either a retro AMC 1976 Pacer or a cabforward front of a Dodge Neon.

This is the 1989 Plymonth Voyager III Concept vehicle.

This is where the Neon started ...

If it wasn't for the "ugly" duckling of a Pacer offering it's cabforward design ques, where would the recovery of Chrysler come from back then? Even an ugly duckling turns into a glorious piece of art in it's time. Lee did a good thing keeping the AMC styling engineering group together to save Chrysler with future models.

And now you know the rest of the story.
