I talked to a guy at a transmission shop that has been doing it for 50+ years and he said that the only real difference it will make is that you may notice slightly harder shifts. I still agree with das though, use what is factory recommended. Although my dad has used dextron III in his ram for 170,000 miles...

I've driven over 15,000 miles on conventional oil before, but I don't recommend anyone doing that.

Let me start by saying I don't recomend putting Dexron 3 in your Dodge,I recomend putting what it calls for in ATF-4, My point is that Dexron 3 isn't theinstant death of your transmission especially if mixed with ATF-4. I am speaking from expirence and 20,000 miles of Dexron 3 over the course of the yearin my Neon transmission that it is unnoticable from driving,My shifts were perfect and smooth the whole time.If your transmission slips or something happens to it while using Dexron 3 it was most likely a pre existing problem that was there before the fluid switch, With a worn transmission Dexron 3 could be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Just because I got 15,000 miles out of my Dexron 3 doesn't mean you will but I would say that from my expirence with multipul Chryslers that Dexron isn't a instant death if driven and the onlyfluid available.

Thanks for the response and for the advise. My buddy just change his transmission filter and add Pennzoil atf+4 and he says it runs much better and the gears are much smoother. And yes he has a atx transmission. Once again thanks.

Can somebody explain to me why all my Trannys work good? I've never had the slipping or bad shifts and this is the honest truth, I'm sure we'll see him back in a month or two asking us how to pull a transmission out. My clutch bands were even bare metal whenI pulled them out and still I had no slipping.
