hey guys..i just installed my CAI, however i feel like something is not right. the pipe kept shaking so i tied it with a wire.. does it look like its installed right?

Also, the filter is in back of the engine facing downward. it was the only way i could get it to fit without hitting or touching anything. Furthemore, is it ok if the pipe is touching the valve cover?

 

thats the weirdest intake placement i have seen on a neon. usually those warm air intakes (beacuse it sits over your exhaust manifold) sit horizontal behind the coil pack and like i just said over your exhaust manifold. can u take a pic of the filter to show what its actually touching? maybe thats better somehow? doubtful but maybe.

 

The filter is underneath.it that gray spot the arrows are pointing to..this is the best i can get of it at the moment. it seems like a good idea because there is an empt space beaneath it which may allow air to come from underneath the car. idk though. has anyone tried this before? can this ruin the CAI? im just curious.

 

that kinda sucks since the tube is still running next to the exhaust heating it up before entering the intake. the long tube is so you can run it down between the battery and radiator support (modifying the battery tray or moving battery to trunk is required) then out to the bottom of the car in front of the driverside tire. i wrote up a post on it. search "battery to trunk"

If your good with tin snips you don't need to move the battery to the trunk, but I don't think the tube being in the back of engine bay hurts you that much, especially when your EGR is recirculating hot engine gas anyway. I wouldn't change to the front for 1-2 Hp. Front mounted is preferable but hell what u got now is better than stock.

My brother got a Thermal Heat Gun today and he can check the temp of any surface on the fly, I'd like to see the difference in heat between a back mounted intake and front mounted.

I'd buy a map clamp and try the resistor hack,I bet it works with a map clamp.

 

sorry but theres just no way that thats mounted correctly.i had the same wai before i made my real cai. you got the pipe going from the throttle body back the other piece of piping installed backwards flip the main pipe around and reconnect the other pipe and filter. then that bracket should be obvious to where it mounts. i mean you can leave it like that if you like it better it wont hurt anything.
