are there any stronger axels for 1st gen?
1. sohc or dohc?
2. stick shift of automatic?
3. show or go
Ive got a stick shift and ive got a 16 valve (there is no badge in the head so i dont know, pretty sure dohc though) imgoing forall go. for the record we have really bad winters here so i dont want risk water or dirt in the intake. im just going run the k&n in the winter. full intentions with the car, high comp. pistons, port and polish, headers, and 3" exhuast once the car hits the track.stain steel ones dont rust

for a dohc/mtx firstmods should go like this...do the 3.0 intake(look it up), udp, header, exhaust on a dohc is pretty good...you don't need 3' piping unless you get 400hp and its only good for 4-5hp
For most axle upgrades worth anything, it will require the use of a larger hub/spindle. Advanced auto parts sells axles with a lifetime warranty. My neon has 2003 acr axles (about $170 for the pair) mated with 2005 spindles from a junk yard car. These are rated for 180 lbs of torque which is pretty decent for most street cars. Went through three axle shafts before buying theses, and the warranty sweetness the pot.
Some neon owners have made use the the driver's side axle from n/a & turbo dodge cars such as the daytona, lebaron, shadow/duster/sundance, and spirit/aries. Many turbododge owners are running 12's, 11's and 10's with stock axles (www.relentlessperformance.com). With this combo, they use the aforementioned PT passenger side axle. Srt axles are also an option if you can get the hubs to use them.
Regarless of your engine, I'd address suspension and brakes before throwing more power on these 10 yr old cars. Just picked up a 96 and it handles like a soft pillow in turns. Feels quite unless compared to my other neon. A larger sway bar up front and a rear bar greatly enhance stability in turns and maneuvering through traffic. Urethane bushings are worth their weight in gold whe those OEM bushings go marsh mellow. Also, make sure all your mounts are solid. If they are not broken now, they will be. Bad mounts are another cause for broken axles.

lol thanks for the advice about the muffler, im going to see how things fair out with the car, if all goes well im hoping for a autocross car. ... what would suggest when the time comes for an exhuast upgrade im only planning on 250-330, im hoping anyway. if there is already a post about this, just whip me and send in the right direction. thanks for the links too by the estneon
