I have a '98 Neon and all of a sudden one day the reverse lights stopped working. The weird thing is that when you put the shifter between Reverse and Neutral the lights come on then. I wasn't sure if it is a netural saftey switch or a back-up light switch or if it is something completely differtent? If someone could help me out on what needs to be fixed and how to fix it I would appreciate it a lot.

 

I don't know if my problem is similar, but my back up lights didn't work since i bought my car, they seemed to work when i had some pressure on the gear shifter in reverse, not sure whether it was forward or backwards I was applying the pressure, but it would sometimes turn the lights on.

When I did the atx to mtx swap, I found the battery tray was broken and sitting on the shifter cables causing them not to sit right. Problem solved, maybe you're cables are outof alignment?
(now I have the mtx and my backups don't work at all?!) Too lazy to check the switch lol

ha mine dont work either. Think its the cables as they are loose. havent checked it out i just hit the brakes a lot when i reverse at night to see whats behind me

 

instead of putting preassure i just keep going from nuetral to reverse real fast till they turn on lol if that dont work keep hitting bakes

 

ok my problem is different this my second tranny and my reverse light don't work either. on my first tranny they worked any ideas of wat it is

Anybody figure out this problem? Im having the exact same problem I have to hold the shifter between reverse and neutral.
