my 96 automatic neon has had this problem for a while and to fix it, i add transmission fluid... but then i have to add more in like a month or so. usually it happens when i come to a stop, once i accelerate, the engine revs like it is in neutral and then all of a sudden goes into drive and i lurch forward. does anyone know what it could be? i have done some repair work on the car and i have a repair manual. is this something that is an easy fix or should i let a mechanic do it?

 

your probally leaking fluid out of the tranny pan gasket.....my wifes car has this problem, i just dont care enough to fix itbut it only leaks a little, you can se a few small spots in the driveway but it isnt much

 

If your level is good and you still have that problem, you could try a fluid and filter change along with adjusting the kickdown band. If that doesn't help, you may need a new tranny.
