95 Neon only revving to 4000rpm????
I just bought a 95 Dodge Neon SOHC and it runs great but when I rev it in park or nuetral the rev limiter hit at exactly at 4000rpm and when I drive it in drive or manually shifting from first to second or drive the rev limiter still hits at 4000rpm, does anybody know what it might be.
When I checked for the codes using the key thing(CEL) I get codes
CODE 23** Indicates that the air temp sensor input is below the minimum acceptable voltage or sensor input is above the acceptable voltage.
CODE 24** Throttle position sensor voltage to high or low.Test the tps.
CODE 12 Problem with battery connection.Direct battery input to pcm disconnected within the last 50 ignition key-on cycles.

Ok, couple things. You shouldn't be revving the **** out of your motor in neutral or park. Second, you also shouldn't be manual shifting an auto transmission. Yes its fun, do the MTX swap, the tranny last a LOT longer.
Now, the 4k limit is usually from a bad MAP sensor, check the connector on it and see if the limit goes away. Although, the TPS might interfere with the revving, Im not sure about it, someone else will have to chime in on that. Does it limit at 4 when your in drive?
Start by cleaning your battery connections real good. Check your connections on the AIT, MAP and throttle body.
Hope this helps

well Im not really trying to trev the crap out of it but I was trying to pass a car up on the expressway and when it downshifted from Drive to second gear the fricking rev limiter was limiting the motor to only 4 000rpm., but it does this in Drive also. I can understand that some cars do do this in Park or in nuetral but in gear, My other neon is a 1996 2 door sane motor and it goes past 6000rpm.

.Check the wiring to the sensor and have a look at the sensor itself.

Whats so retarded? People push these engines up to 6500+ in circle track racing in stock form and in DOHC form the engine revs up to 7000Rpm noproblem. I do a 3 second long rev up to 6,000Rpmand I'm suddenly the retarded one.
