Default Intermittent grinding noise.

Hey all,

As some of you may remember, I am a new addition to the Neon owner crowd. So far my Neon has been flawless thanks to the great care taken by the previous owner.

My car makes a grinding noise sometimes while I'm driving around. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine. It sounds like the brakes but the grinding continues even if I let the brakes off. Not only that, but the previous owner took it in to a mechanic to check out the brakes and he said the brakes are fine. There isn't any affect on performance while the noise is happening. It's just annoying.

Any guesses on what could be causing it?

Thanks,

Kris

^^^ The previous owner has been a family friend for years.

Regarding the type of sound: Hard to say exactly, a bit of both grinding and scraping. Sounds like it's coming from under the front passenger cabin. Another thing I noticed is the sound will occur for a couple seconds if I turn the ignition to "on" without starting the engine.
