Great, what the hell is this leak????
ok so I WAS going to do my clutch today but last night I went out and got the car on jacks and did some easy stuff to get ready for today...and I slide under the car to once again try to find the elusive inspection cover that spud so speaks of...lol...(still couldent see it...lol) and discovered this leak coming right where the drivers side axel goes into the transmission.... now its been there for awile... I've seen that the bottom of the engine had been wet before but just blew it off as a simple little oil leak well now it has even soaked the rack and pinion.
So... I need to know
what the hell is leaking?
what it will do to my car if I allow it to leak?
If this leak could be why my clutch feels like it is going out?
Do I absoulutely need to get it fixed?
Is my transmission shot?
What do I have to do to fix it?

Do I just pry them out then push them in???

i usually use a screwdriver and wedge it in between the seal and the tranny...then tap on it with a hammer and the seal bends in half...
then just set the new one in place and tap it in with a rubber mallet

this is gonna sound nuts, but trust me. fill the trans. with atf. its become pretty common to use atf in manual trannys that have aluminum cases (light duty trans.) one of the many advantages is that its easier to identify a trans. leak from a motor leak.
i say this because i had a valve cover leak that ran from the top of the engine down to the pass. side axle.
so long as your trans. didnt run dry u should be fine.
oh and that cover you have been looking for, should be about 8 inches toward the front of the vehicle from the axle. look at the lowest point of the trans. bell housing. there should be some 10mm bolts holding a tin shield into place. take those 10mm bolts out and you will see the clutch assembly.
