Auto trans problem
OMG the Neon tranny is a cake walk! try rebuilding a Chevy Transmission out of a 1992 Silverado and you'll see just how easy theNeon tranny goes together!
You can have the bands, planetary, pilot shaft, pump and valve body out in 15 minutes. Bands are easy to change too, my brother took it apart right in front of my eyes on his truck tail gateand when I got new clutch bands he let me put them in and it was easy as cake took like 10 minutes to throw it back together once I put a permatex bead on the pan wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Valve body is easy so long as you be carefull not to drop or losethe little steal ***** out of their original position on the valve body.
If you are missing second gear try adjusting the kick downbolt, 99.99.999.999% of the time this will bring second gear back. happened twice on both my trannys when I couldn't get a good lock on the nutwith my ****ty tools. take the bolt out then tighten it as hard asyou would tighten a valve cover downthen back it out 3 full turns. Make sure you mark a point on the tranny and mark the bolt so you remember how many turns you've gone. I initially had 2 turns out on mine and I had no second gear. 2 and a half I had 2nd gear and 3 turns out was whenI had correct shift points as the stock tranny had.
Its easy!just take the battery tray out and you have easy access. On mine I hit a dear a year ago so my battery tray sits on one bolt next to the frame rail whichI leaveloose a bit so I can slip the tray out easy if I need to in the future. Then all its held by is a small bracket to the top of the radiator which takes a 10mm to remove and I forget what the bigger bolts are that hold the bottum part of the tray asI never deal with them anymore.
