ight check it out imma new here.... so try to go easy on me.. ok for starters i have a 96 plymouth neon sohc a/t
not bad i got it for free... ill post pics later.. i guy decided to get rid of it cause it was broken into like 3 times..
so far i replaced the water pump front pads and rotors all mounts, took out a/c, and installed 2.5 cat back with cheapy muffler sounds nice.. all parts other than exhaust the dude had under warranty so i really havent spent much on it.. now im thinking of future upgrades.. first of all to save time and money is it possible to slap on a doch head on this block or are the blocks completly different.. i know id have to change out quite a few things intake manifold, exhaust maybe.. ecu? im not sure.. or
doing the whole doch swap with a 5spd i see plenty of donors laying around in j/ys here in vegas so does any body have a parts list or write up on this swap.. i know ill need the motor for sure tranny mounts axles ecu wiring harness shifter and cable, pedal assembly am i missing any thing?

welcome, since no one else wants to chime in....

Dohc headon a Sohc block bad idea, lowers compression (unless your going turbo)

Sohc headon Dohc block somewhat good idea adds about a half a point of compression...

imo just switch it to dohc from a 96, make sure you get the dohc motor wiring harness and bobble sturt off doner car, along with dohc pcm, drop motor in plug harnesses in and go. simple swap make sure its a 96 though and not a 95 or 97-99. 95 pcm wont work in your car unless you want to rewire everything... 97-99 pcm's controlled the radiator fans with a relay in the pcm.
96 had an external fan relay... so if you want your fans to work then find a 96 dohc doner car...

It is best to use the dohc pistons with a dohc head. Using a dohc head with sohc pistons lowers compression to 9.2:1. Not really earth-shattering, seeing as that is what I did. Again, it is best to use the correct pistons, but the car still runs well with the sohc pistons.

5sp swap is ideal for a better driving experience, and certainly open up the power band. I would invest in diff saver tabs when going 5speed. Added insurance.

ok no head swap unless im going turbo and with my budge now i really doubt ill go tha way.. now so if i do the motor swap it has to be a 96 harness right ... also for the tranny swap can u fill me in on these diff tabs? like i said im a noob thanks for ur help also if i do swap to a 5spd do i stay with my ecu or does that have to be swapped out aswell

you really dont need diff tabs as long as you dont plan on burning your tires all day and every time you take off a light and your not going to be auto xing your car, bouncing it off the rev limiter all day... they have a tendicy to fly out of the diff threw the bell housing and hit things.

oh god not again... no disrepect. just have to be her long enuf to understand....

Some as in (slash) swares up and down that it is a performance upgrade... it dumps more fuel then the sohc however it does not increase timing so it just makes you run pig rich....

if you do the 2.4 swap you are going to run it off the 2.0 dohc computer of a similer year. you have a 96 year car so you have to use a 96 harness due to the fan relay. 97-99 had the fan relay in the pcm 96 its on the fans themselfs along with 95 how ever 95 is different all the way around and not a option... well it is but I would shot you if you did it for all the wasted time.

non taken like i said im new here lol.. so the soch cam of a 95 on my 96 with a Dohc ecu is out of the question then right?
