Default Hello Need Some Advice For My Swap

Hi

Well first I would like to say that this a great site to learn and know more aboutmy neon but I just need a little advice on the Project I am about to Attempt...

Ok Ive search and read and have concluded, that i want to swap my SOHC to DOHC. I went around looking for a DOHC motor and I foundtwo carsat a junk yard,

One of thetwo has a DOCH motor witha auto transmission andthe otheronly has a Manual transmission without a motor, but engine harness and PCM are still there.

So my question is:

-Is itpossible thatI canuse the manualpcm, tranny, and Engine harnesson a Auto Motor?

-Can I use my SOHC engine harness on a DOHC motor with a DOHC pcm?

Just want a confirmation/advice befor I start on the Project... I tried searching but I really couldn't find a straight answer. Any response would be very much appreciated

Thanks

ok first off welcome....

second off here we go again.... lol sorry man seems like im the only one that answers these...

there are 3 groups of 1st gens both sohc and dohc

1st you got your 95's same motor as all the other years however the wiring harnesses were compleatly different...pcm was obd2 but had old obd1 harness connector. looked like1 long reqtangle. Also the cooling fans were controlled by an external relay mounted on the fans. Alsoa few sensors were different then all the other years...This applyed to both SOHC and DOHC

2nd you got your 96s...Then In 96 they changed the pcm's over to the 2 plugs, and the fan relayremained mounted on the fans... also the sensors were a hybrid between 95 seonsors and 97-99 sensors...This applyed to both SOHC and DOHC.

3rd you have the 97-99s... Pcm's still have the 2 plugs going into the pcmhowever the fanrelay was now controlled by the pcm... Also all the sensors remained the same threw the last 3 years of the 1st gen...

So it really depends on what you want to do... without knowing what year your car is allready its hard to tell you what to do....

however.... to answer your questions a little....No do not use a MTX pcm on your ATX car... it may start but it wont controll your lock up and your tranny will get hot and go boom...

you can use use your sohc wiring harness on a dohc but get ready to splice more wires and solder more wires then you ever want to in your life...and by the way your on your own on that one... used harness goes for about 75 bucks unmolessted...

Let us know a couple things...

what year is your car.
is it a ATX or MTX
what do you want to do to it...ie...dohc atx dohc mtx

then we can answer your question compleatly... or atleast I will...

also the DOHC with an ATX is not a very good choice...for performance. its actually the slowest form of the Neon cause the ATX doesn't allow the DOHC to reach its full potential. that is unless your going to be using it as a drag car?

oh sorry, didnt explain myself....[:@]

ok I have a 97 MTX with a SOHC motor
and the motors i found in the Junk yard are both 98 and up...

so my plan is to use the DOHC ATX motor with the DOHC MTX harness and pcm tranny on my SOHC MTX car...

hope this makes any sense

Thanks

You won't be able to call it that anymore soon .

Sounds like you have a good plan in tact. I would suggest changing the HG, timing belt, water pump and idler pulley while you have the DOHC engine out of the car.

there is a diffirence in the intake manifold for the sohc and dohc. has for the throttlebody there is only a difference between the MTX and ATX. ATX is slightly larger than the MTX(this applies for both sohc and dohc)
